Protecting Salt Vulnerable Areas Using an Enhanced Roadside Drainage System (ERDS)

چکیده
De-icing road salt application as a part of winter maintenance is standard practice with over 60 billion kilograms applied to roads worldwide each ensure traffic safety. However, high concentrations chlorides in melted ice and snow runoff from parking lots can have adverse effects on both surface ground water, especially vulnerable areas. A area sensitive salts where additional management measures may be required mitigate potential environmental effects. The main objectives this paper were present new design method for sizing Enhanced Roadside Drainage Systems (ERDS), demonstrate the findings 3 year field monitoring assess long term performance ERDS using PCSWMM. conceptual was also modelled its effectiveness protecting To showcase method, we completed two case studies, one relatively pristine headwater stream moderately impacted urban stream. Stormwater models developed scenarios—with without ERDS—to benefits system areas at site.

Understanding and Protecting Vulnerable Financial Consumers
This article considers how consumer protection law and policy should address the interests of particularly vulnerable financial consumers. Specifically, the article proposes a taxonomy of vulnerability which helps to identify (a) what makes consumers particularly vulnerable, and (b) how consumer protection law and policy can respond to these causes in a way that provides such consumers with app...

In its latest global assessment of road safety, the World Health Organization (WHO) reminded us that half of the 1.2 million fatalities occurring each year on the world’s roads concern vulnerable road users (VRUs), with children and elderly being overrepresented among victims [1]. ‘‘Vulnerable road user’’ is a term applied to those most at risk in traffic, i.e. those unprotected by an outside s...
متن کاملUsing spatial analysis to identify areas vulnerable to infant mortality.
OBJECTIVE To analyze the spatial distribution of infant mortality and identify clusters with high risk of death in the first year of life. METHODS The Thiessen (Voronoi) polygon method was used to analyze spatial distribution of the infant mortality rate, calculated by municipality. The triennium 2006 - 2008 was used as a reference to estimate the average infant mortality rate, and the first ...
متن کاملMATLAB CODE FOR AN ENHANCED VIBRATING PARTICLES SYSTEM ALGORITHM
Vibrating particles system (VPS) is a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on the free vibration of freedom system’ single degree with viscous damping. In this algorithm, each agent gradually approach to its equilibrium position; new agents are generated according to current agents and a historically best position. Enhanced vibrating particles system (EVPS) employs a new alternative procedu...
